Holy Family Home & Shelter is the only shelter in Northeastern Connecticut that accepts family units. Not only does HFHS provide safe and secure short-term housing but they provide access to basic needs (clothing, diapers, food) and case management services to all individuals residing in the shelter. Case management services are provided to assist residents in accessing employment, childcare, transportation, and long-term safe and stable housing. HFHS is part of Connecticut’s Coordinated Access Networks (CAN) which provides individuals and families experiencing homelessness access to local housing resources in a streamlined, comprehensive and accessible way.
The Shelter is housed in a building that was built in 1887 and in constant need of maintenance. Before the bathroom remodel, the facility intended to serve up to 22 residents had only one functioning shower, three toilets frequently in disrepair, and no designated area for diaper changing. The grant awarded to HFHS supported the remodeling of the bathroom, resulting in a fully functional, updated, and clean facility that can accommodate multiple individuals at once.
