Center for Medicare Advocacy

2024 - 2 year $200,000 for General Operating Support

Though the Center for Medicare Advocacy is based in Mansfield, Connecticut it has a national reach that impacts not only Connecticut residents but older adults and people with disabilities nationwide. The CMA team works to enhance the lives of older adults and people with disabilities through increasing access to Medicare and necessary home and community-based services. They collaborate with policymakers and community leaders to raise awareness of Medicare coverage, ensuring that beneficiaries understand their rights and that families and caregivers can access additional support through community organizations.

With funding from the JPOFF, the Center launched the Community Outreach and Education Project. This initiative aims to improve access to Medicare and essential home and community-based services through community outreach and education programs. As well, COEP brings together and fosters a network of service providers and policymakers in the underserved region of northeastern Connecticut. The COEP hosted a community event in June 2024 at the Windham Senior Center to highlight community services and resources available to older adults and people with disabilities in the greater Windham area. Attendees had the opportunity to meet with representatives from the community organizations and enjoy refreshments, giveaways, and an informative game of Bingo.
