General Coordinator Update

general_coordinatorWe’ve had an eventful Spring in fundraising! We are so grateful to the Jeffrey P. Ossen Family Foundation for awarding us a grant for $200,000! We were able to recognize Eileen Ossen and the foundation in a presentation at the 5K Run for the Playground last Saturday, and we accepted a “big check” from them at a presentation before the Mansfield Town Council meeting on Monday, June 10th. We are thrilled that they supported the three goals of this project.

Meeting the ‘Ossen Challenge’ for Windham’s Women & Girls

jeffreypossen_eileenossenThe Jeffrey P. Ossen Family Foundation put the ‘challenge’ in ‘challenge grant’ for the Windham Area Women & Girls Fund in 2012… and will do so in 2013 and 2014. the first year was a rousing success.

When two representatives from the Windham Area Women & Girls Fund invited Eileen Ossen for lunch, she knew an “ask” was coming.

“Sometimes people just ask me out for lunch,” Ossen laughs, “but I knew they were raising money for the fund’s endowment.”

With a long association, she was happy to hear them out, but, she warned them, she and her late husband decided long ago that the Jeffrey P. Ossen Family Foundation would not make grants to endowments. “We agreed we wanted to see the money used right away,” she explains. “I told them I’d think about it.”

Thanks to you, we met the 1st year of the Challenge!

thank_youAt last year’s In Celebration of Women breakfast we announced an exciting – but daunting – challenge. The Jeffrey P. Ossen Family Foundation offered us an unprecedented opportunity to grow our endowment by as much as $200,000 while giving out more in grants than ever in our history.

It came – and comes – with a challenge. The foundation would give us $1 for grants for every $1 we raised for endowment, up to $66,000 each year for three years.

Ossen Family Foundation Awards Windham Hospital $125K for Cancer Programs

The Jeffrey P. Ossen Family Foundation recently awarded $100,000 to the Windham Hospital Foundation to establish a Cancer Navigation Program at Windham Hospital and an additional $25,000 to continue funding Windham Hospital’s yearly Cancer Survivors Day program for the next five years.

According to Shawn Maynard, Executive Director of the Windham Hospital Foundation, the Cancer Navigation Program will enable the hospital’s Cancer Coordinator to provide patient navigation for all cancer patients. He said that personalized, coordinated care is a goal of the Hartford HealthCare System (of which Windham Hospital is a partner) and this program will make that a possibility. Patient navigation is very critical to the comprehensive provision of care at a difficult time for people who have been diagnosed with cancer.

“These programs would be very dear to Jeff and it is the hope of the Jeffrey P. Ossen Family Foundation that this contribution will provide comfort and support to those patients and families who will be the beneficiaries of these services,” commented Eileen Ossen, Executive Director of the Jeffrey P. Ossen Family Foundation. The Jeffrey P. Ossen Family Foundation is a private family foundation established in Connecticut by Jeffrey P. Ossen to continue the family tradition of commitment to enhancing the quality of life of the Windham community through grants to qualified charitable organizations. Continued support in the areas of cultural arts, education and healthcare issues will be his legacy to this region.
